Balboa Park Launching New Website at


SAN DIEGO, Balboa Park, (Wednesday, March 22, 2017) –  A new virtual presence for a historical San Diego landmark.  “The “Jewel of San Diego,” Balboa Park, is launching a new website on March 22, to showcase this world-renowned destination.  The new responsive website, which is designed to serve locals and visitors alike, allows clear, simple access to information to make the most of their visit to the cultural heart of San Diego.


The new website, designed, developed, and created by Balboa Park Online Collaborative, presents a clean, modern, take for a century-old masterpiece.  Utilizing bold, stunning, photography to showcase the beautiful sights throughout the Park, the site delivers a simple, easy-to-navigate, responsive portal, which puts all of Balboa Park at your fingertips.


Home to more than 27 museums and cultural institutions, Balboa Park celebrated its Centennial Anniversary in 2015, and continues to boast world-class art, gardens, architecture, exhibitions, performances, and the world’s largest outdoor pipe organ.


Using a newly developed Calendar module, the events occurring throughout Balboa Park are listed for each day, and are able to be filtered by type, location, date, and time, making planning your visit easy.  A redesigned, interactive map, developed with increased readability and accessibility is featured throughout the website.


Another new feature are the preference-based  Itineraries, which offer  new ways to experience the Park through curated content about many of the Park’s points of interest.  There are Itineraries geared toward kids, architecture, nature, history and more.  These Itineraries allow a new and different adventure with every visit.  New Itineraries will be developed in the future, to highlight new and exciting viewpoints throughout Balboa Park.


Early reviews of the site have elicited comments like:  “Clean, graphic-strong site. Minimal text,” and “Interactivity, extensive information, and styled nicely to Balboa Park's iconic look.”  The site will continue to focus on highlighting the beauty, culture, and never-ending energy of Balboa Park, embracing its motto, “Ever Changing. Always Amazing.”










Balboa Park began as “City Park,” when 1400 acres of land set aside in 1868 by San Diego civic leaders.  Leading up to the 1915 Panama-California Exhibition, the renamed Balboa Park was poised to host more than 4 million people in an exhibition celebrating people, innovation, and progress.   Today, more than a century later, Balboa Park houses more than 27 museums and cultural institutions, stunning architecture, fountains, sculptures, and the World Famous San Diego Zoo.  Learn more at
