Computer Science and Technology Spring Camps

Grades 4 – 8

Members: $70 per day

Nonmembers: $75 per day

This spring break, the Fleet Science Center and ThoughtSTEM have come together to bring you the ultimate week of camp that brings computer science and coding to life. This spring break, we're celebrating our top five favorite video games and movie series; we'll be using these as inspiration to create our own, unique 2D video games! In addition to learning how to code, students will also be guided in the ways of digital citizenship and how to appropriately and safely share their fan-fiction work with the world.

March 25 – Coding for Pokemon Fans

In this class, students will learn how to code a Pokemon-themed survival video game. After learning how to create characters with walking animations, students will try to navigate their characters through various obstacles.

March 26 – Coding for Star Wars Fans

Drawing on inspiration from the Star Wars universe, students will explore their favorite characters, powers and dramatic moments, and incorporate their own characters and game dynamics into a battle arena video game of their own creation!

March 27 – Coding for Marvel Fans

Using The Avengers as inspiration, students will create a battle arena video game that pits their favorite superheroes against their least favorite villains in an endless battle between good and evil!

March 28 – Coding for Minecraft Fans

Drawing on the videogame mechanics of Minecraft, students will code their own game with day/night cycles, health bars and enemies like Creepers to hide from at night!

March 29 – Coding for Fortnite Fans

In this camp, students will learn how to code different features of Fortnite, like enemies, armor, weapons and potions into their own unique 2D games!

ThoughtSTEM's Commitment to Non-Violence

We are always trying to find new ways to bring students into computer science and coding. Often, video games provide a great gateway into computer science, but sometimes those popular video games can be somewhat violent. We are 100% committed to making sure what students are not exposed to violent content in our camps. This is why we often modify video game content to meet students' educational needs, while still engaging them in a game they love.
