Join the San Diego Air & Space Museum for safe, hands-on STEM summer camps! Half-day sessions are available June 20th - August 19th for students grades 1-12, with small class sizes, individual materials, and tons of fun.


San Diego Model Railroad Museum

This summer the SDMRM offers an in-person camp for TK - 8th Grade. Our ever-popular model railroad camp introduces beginner modelers to the basics of creating a mock model railroad. Older campers will create a working model railroad. Campers paint, plaster, lay track and construct a mini-town, complete with buildings, trees, trains, and people! All SDMRM camps are immersive, hands-on, and led by enthusiastic education professionals. Camp COVID-19 protocols will align with museum safety requirements and all requirements from the California Department of Public Health. Sessions are available June 20th - August 5th.

  • June 27 - July 1: Campers entering grades K-2 (Beginner)
  • July 11 - 15: Campers entering grades 3-5 (Apprentice)
  • July 25 - 29: Campers entering grades 6-8 (Intermediate)
  • August 1 - 5: Campers entering grades 6-9 (Advanced)
  • All Camps are 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • Cost:
    • June 27 - July 1: $205 per camper
    • $195 per camper for Museum Members
    • All other sessions: $225 per camper
    • $200 per camper for Museum Members

 


San Diego Junior Theatre

Spend your summer acting, singing, and dancing in beautiful Balboa Park! Junior Theatre's summer camps run in weekly sessions from June 11 through August 26 and each day includes four classes covering acting, voice, dance, and a special topic. There is something for all ages and levels of experience.

Two programs are being offered for Summer 2022 Onsite Programs at the History Center in Balboa Park: 

Time Detectives (Ages 8 - 11) - Sign up here 
Time Detectives is focused on discovering what makes our city unique, students participate in hands-on activities such as artifact exploration, mapping Balboa Park, cooking historic recipes, and themed art projects and games. Students are encouraged to make real-world connections with the past and explore the ‘living history’ of the present.

This free program will be on site offered in Balboa Park from 1pm to 5pm on the following dates :

Curate This! (Ages 11 - 14) - Sign up here
Build skills for the future and learn about the behind-the-scenes work of museum professionals! Learn what it takes to curate an exhibit. Investigate collections, use photography and preservation techniques to save historical artifacts, and then put it all together for the public. History is exciting!

This free program will be on site offered in Balboa Park from 1pm to 5pm on the following dates :

Theatre Design Studio

Theatre Design Studio is an intensive program that looks at the design components of theatre. Each week will feature a different subject: set design, costume design, and prop design. Students will attend lectures and participate in group activities that will lead to a final project based on each week’s focus. Students who complete their session will receive a certificate of completion and will be offered additional activities and access to Old Globe staff to enrich this opportunity further.

In our continuing effort to make theatre matter to more people, the Theatre Design Studio is provided free of charge to all students thanks to our generous donors.

Summer Theatre Design Studio

Session One  (June 21-June 24, 2022) - Costume Design: Students will be given an overview of the costume design process. Join us to learn how to think like a costume designer, develop and present a theatrical costume design.

Session Two (June 28-July 1, 2022) - Set Design: This week will focus on the art and craft of scenic design. Students will develop design composition and model-making skills.

Session Three (July 5-July 8, 2022) - Props Design and Fabrication: Through hands-on projects, we will explore the art and craft of making stage props.

    • $110 per camper, includes shipping of supplies if needed
