One-of-a-kind classes and camps are offered in beautiful Balboa Park for children, teens and adults. The behind-the-scenes summer adventures are wide-ranging, featuring hands-on classes, camps, seminars, explorations and games created by Park educators, performers and artists. Students have the opportunity to learn about varied disciplines, like dancing or bridge, sculpting or snakes, and even trains, planes, and dinosaurs.
Balboa Park summer education programs begin in mid-June and continue through August. Dates, times, and prices vary by institution. Registration will begin in March.

San Diego Air & Space Museum (AIR)

Japanese Friendship Garden (JFG)

Grades 1st thru 8th: Experience Japanese culture with fun activities at the JFG! Students will learn about “Life in Japan” the way it used to be, and also how it is in modern Japan. There will be Japanese crafts, games, language, food, and other fun activities. Kids will also learn about our Garden and Japanese style gardening.
San Diego Model Railroad Museum (MRM)

Grades 2nd thru 8th Grade: Explore the multitude of disciplines required to build a model railroad. Working from a track plan, campers will construct an operational, themed scale model, from track laying, ballasting, scenery construction, and circuitry. Campers will investigate and apply design principles, research unusual railroad cars, and learn why engineers use arches in the construction of railroad bridges. Scaffolded activities accommodate students of different ages.
San Diego Automotive Museum (SDAM)

Grades 4th thru 6th: Learn about car culture, design and engineering. Create car designs and make your own models. Investigate engine technologies from different eras. See classic cars up close and personal with local car owners. Learn how to identify different cars from various decades. Explore alternative automotive technologies past, present and future.
San Diego Civic Youth Ballet (SDCYB)

Grades Pre-K thru 5th: Daily ballet classes introduce students the art of ballet as well as the concepts of musicality and performance. Other camp activities include arts & crafts, jazz classes, performance rehearsals, and field trips to other cultural institutions in Balboa Park. Each week of camp culminates in an in-studio performance where family and friends are invited to see what students have learned.
Spanish Village Morning Art (SV6)

Discover clay sculpture, glazing and pottery wheel. Create animal mugs, finger puppets, and garden gnomes!
Discover mixed media sculpture: Hike through Balboa Park and collect natural objects. Then create masks, walking sticks, musical instruments and mobiles.
Students will learn to use tools, acrylic paints, plus and array of decorative items to finish their pieces, while stimulating the imagination and making new friends.

Junior Theatre offers introductory to advanced one- to two-week day camps in voice, acting and dance, which then culminate in an end-of-camp presentation.
