Balboa Park, San Diego—Budding shutterbugs have another opportunity to develop their photographic eye in Balboa Park’s premier cultural playground during the second annual Kid’s-Eye View of the Park Photo Contest. Entries can be submitted online during the month of November at www.balboapark.org, and prizes, including an HP Photosmart printer, summer camp at the Museum of Photographic Arts, a Family 4-Pack to the San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park, gift cards, and tickets to Park attractions, will be awarded for the best three photos in two different age categories: 6-11 and 12-17.
The Kid’s-Eye View of the Park Photo Contest, sponsored by Balboa Park Central, encourages young people to do what they love most: explore Balboa Park’s kid-friendly attractions while snapping photos of the Park’s lush grounds and architecture, as well as animals in the San Diego Zoo. Photos that include any identifiable persons, however, will not be eligible.
The contest begins on November 1, 2011, and participants are advised to ask a parent or guardian to upload their photo using the online form at www.balboapark.org no later than Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at 5pm. Each submission (one per person) must be accompanied by an artist’s statement explaining the significance of the photo in 50 words or less.
Photos will be judged by a committee from Balboa Park Central, the Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA), and Balboa Park Online Collaborative according to creativity (50%) and photographic quality (50%). Contest winners will be announced on Tuesday, December 13, 2011.
Winning photos will be digitally displayed for one month on both MoPA’s Local Photography Program monitor and the Balboa Park website. All winners will also receive a MoPA gift bag. Additional prizes for the first place winner in the 12-17 age category include an HP Photosmart Printer, a Behind-the-Scenes tour of MoPA with the Executive Director, and a Family 4-Pack of Passports to Balboa Park. The first place winner in the 6-11 age category receives a free week-long summer camp at MoPA in place of a printer in addition to the other prizes listed above. Second prize winners in both age categories will receive a Family 4-Pack to the San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park. The third place winner in the 12-17 category receives a Family 4-Pack to the San Diego Air & Space Museum along with a store gift bag, and the winner in the 6-11 age category earns a Family 4-Pack of Gallery/IMAX admissions to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and a $20 gift card for the Fleet’s North Star Science Store.
Participants and their parents should read the complete Contest Rules at www.balboapark.org before submitting.
