San Diego Model Railroad Museum

At 28,000 square feet, the museum is the world's largest operating model railroad museum. This unique museum contains four enormous scale and model layouts, built by separate clubs, which depict railroads of the Southwest in O, HO, and N scales. In addition, the San Diego Model Railroad Museum features a Toy Train Gallery with an interactive Lionel layout for children and state-of-the-art theater lighting.

Join Motive Mac and Friends for fun filled activities in the SDMRM education room every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11 am to 3pm.
The kids corner is open to children of all ages to enjoy railroad themed crafts, listening to stories and playing games.

Mac’s Kids Corner is closed on the first Tuesday of every month.

The Erwin Welsch Memorial Research Library focuses on all aspects of railroading with a particular emphasis on railroading in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The collection covers railroads throughout North, Central, and South America, Europe, and Asia. Reference materials include books, periodicals, professional journals, government publications, manuscript materials, maps, engineering drawings, DVDs, videotapes, slides, photographs, and other ephemera. The on-line catalog may be accessed from the Museum web site.
