Mingei International Museum

Dedicated to art of the people (mingei) from all eras and cultures of the world, Mingei International Museum features dynamic, changing exhibitions of historical and contemporary folk art, craft and design.  Mingei International’s superb collections and stunning exhibitions showcase the finest examples of creative expression from unknown craftsmen to renowned contemporary designers.

Special Community Sunday admission: $5/family; $3/individual

The 2,350 square foot Frances Hamilton White Art Reference Library consists of over 9,000 books, 400 videos, 10,000 slides and many art periodicals related to the Museum's collection and philosophy. Specific collection strengths include Japanese folk art and craft, Chinese ceramic arts, worldwide costumes, adornment and textile arts. Less extensive collection strengths include the arts and crafts of Mexico and India.

The Lucia Ionescu Kanchenian Book Collection and Archive is an important resource for the study of traditional Romanian crafts and costumes, and the Drs. Leslie and Alice Orgel Book Collection covers a variety of topics ranging from the tribal sculpture of Africa to Persian miniatures.
