Japanese Friendship Garden
The Garden originated as a teahouse during the 1915–16 Panama-California Exposition and now lies on two acres near the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. Along the Garden’s winding paths are a Zen garden for meditation, an exhibit house, koi pond, bonsai exhibit, ceremonial gate, and a Fujidana (wisteria arbor). Weekend classes are offered in sushi making, bonsai, calligraphy, and conversational Japanese.

Weekend classes are offered in sushi making, bonsai, calligraphy, and conversational Japanese. Children of all ages are entertained by the award-winning koi in the charming pond.
Satisfy your yen for Japanese culture and tradition at the Japanese Friendship Garden's Gift Shop, which offers a diverse selection of gifts from Japan. The book section includes titles on Japanese gardening and the traditional art of origami. Imported items from Japan, including bento boxes, sake sets, chopsticks, and Lucky Cats, who are said to bring great fortune, are also available. The Garden's Craft Club also provides such unique items as beautiful rice paper journals and one-of-a-kind note cards that are perfect for any occasion.
