Q: What is Explorer?
 
A: Balboa Park Explorer is an Annual Pass program that provides general admission to 17 museums in Balboa Park for 365 days (with no blackout days). As an Explorer Annual Passholder you gain access to exclusive Explorer tailored newsletters that include special information, behind the scenes recommendations, and announcements about happenings in the Park. Explorers also receive exclusive invitations to monthly Explorer-only special events giving you a truly unique behind the scenes look into Balboa Park. 
 
Q: Are there different kinds of Explorer Annual Passes? 
 
A: Yes. Explorer offers a multitude of pass options to fit your needs. With Family passes accommodating up to four children to Adult, Student and Senior passes, we have a pass for you!
 
Q: Are there blackout dates for the Balboa Park Explorer?
 
A: There are no blackout dates for the Balboa Park Explorer. The card will be accepted during all regular museum operating hours. Please note that some museums are closed on Mondays, The San Diego Museum of Art is closed on Wednesdays, and each museum has individual hours of operation.
 
Q: Are there any additional costs when visiting the museums in Balboa Park?
 
A: Occasionally, a museum will feature a special exhibition that requires an additional admission fee. Oftentimes these are discounted for Explorer Annual Passholders, however - always check with the museum before visiting to verify their policy. Q: When may I begin using my Balboa Park Explorer?
 
A: The Balboa Park Explorer Pass is valid for 365 days from the date of purchase.
 
Q: Are payment plans available?
 
A: No, we do not offer payment plans at this time.
 
Q: What happens if I come to Balboa Park and I’ve forgotten my Explorer cards?
 
A: For the best visitor experience, we encourage you to ALWAYS keep your Explorer card with you!  However, if you have forgotten your card, please stop by the Balboa Park Visitors Center or a museum front counter for assistance.
 
Q: What happens if I lost my card and need it replaced?
 
A: If you have lost your Annual Explorer there is a $5 reprint fee per card. To replace your lost pass, you may either email the Explorer office at explorer@balboapark.org or stop by the Balboa Park Visitors Center.
 
Q: If I buy a family pass, instead of naming all four children can I claim a “guest” and bring anyone I’d like?
 
A: No. All Explorer cards must carry a specific individual's name. Guest passes are not part of the Explorer program.
 
Q: Is the San Diego Zoo included with Balboa Park Explorer?
 
A: No, the San Diego Zoo is not included. San Diego Zoo tickets may be purchased on the Zoo website or from the Balboa Park Visitors Center.
