At the request of several members, BPOC launched a new technology support service in July 2010 to provide desktop, server, and application support to the members. Two staff members have been added to support this initiative, which is funded by the member organizations through service contracts. This service is based on a business model whereby BPOC provides cost-savings to the members and realizes those savings through an increase and improvement in IT support.
BPOC currently provides IT support for the following organizations:
- Japanese Friendship Garden
- Mingei International Museum
- Museum of Photographic Arts
- SD Air & Space Museum
- SD History Center
- SD Hall of Champions
- SD Museum of Art
- SD Natural History Museum
- SD Museum of Man
- Balboa Park Central
In addition to providing technical support, a number of major projects have been completed in the first few months of operation. Some highlights include:
- Active monitoring of more than 40 local servers to help prevent failures and interruptions for BPOC and contracted clients
- Migration of a client to Exchange 2010 from an external hosted provider
- Migration of three clients to a Gmail email solution
- Deployment of three Voice-over-IP phone systems
- Expanded the wifi pilot and re-Deployment of the wireless pilot sites on to the new fiber network
- Replacement of firewalls at several clients to increase network security
- Increase network security via system-wide deployment of enhanced anti-virus software at several locations
- Replacement of POS system at two clients
- Computer upgrades:
- Upgraded 20 workstations at the San Diego Museum of Art.
- Eight workstations at San Diego History Center.
- Replaced all workstations and server at Japanese Friendship Garden.
- Upgraded fifteen workstations at the San Diego Hall of Champions Sports Museum.
- Upgraded eight workstations at the Museum of Photographic Arts.
